Meditation Prayers

Connect with inspiration

Meditation prayers (or Puja in sanskrit) are an important component of training in a spiritual life. They help us to still our mind, connect with enlightened beings, and prepare our mind for meditation. Everyone is welcome to attend chanted prayers, there is no need to book and no fee. Please check our calendar for the exact times or contact the Centre for more information.

The heart practice of Kadampa Buddhism, Heart Jewel is a beautiful prayer designed to help us receive inspiration and protection from enlightened beings. A special practice for developing compassion, wisdom, and strength by relying on the Wisdom Buddha Je Tsongkhapa, and for overcoming obstacles and difficulties on the spiritual path by relying on his Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden.

The special Guru yoga practice of Je Tsongkhapa in conjunction with Highest Yoga Tantra. The main practice within the sadhana is relying on the Spiritual Guide, but also includes all the practices of the stages of the path (Lamrim) and training the mind (Lojong). This practice includes a tsog offering so you can bring a vegetarian food offering with you if you wish.

This monthly practice consists principally of prayers to our Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden always helps, guides, and protects pure and faithful practitioners by granting blessings, increasing their wisdom, fulfilling their wishes and bestowing success on all their virtuous activities. This practice includes a tsog offering so you can bring a vegetarian food offering with you if you wish.

At Kadampa Centres worldwide, the eighth of the month is Tara Day. Tara is a female Buddha, whose name means “Rescuer. She is the embodiment of swift compassion. If we rely upon Tara sincerely and with strong faith, she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfill all our wishes.

Once a month the Centre engages in the traditional Buddhist practice of “Powa” or transference of consciousness. Through this we can help those who have recently died experience peace of mind after death and be cared for by the Buddha of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara. Food and flower offerings (tending toward white) are welcome.

The extensive self-generation practice of Vajrayogini — a female enlightened Deity of Highest Yoga Tantra who is the manifestation of the wisdom of all Buddhas. By relying upon this practice sincerely, with a good heart and a mind of faith, it is definitely possible to attain full enlightenment. To practise the sadhana successfully we should first receive the empowerment of Vajrayogini, and then study authentic instructions on the practice such as those found in the commentary Guide to Dakini Land.
