Lamrim • In-depth Unguided Retreat

About the Unguided Retreat

In this retreat we will meditate on the extraordinarily practical presentation of Buddha’s teachings known as Lamrim, or the stages of the path to enlightenment. The 11th Century Indian Buddhist meditation master, Atisha, first presented this structured way of meditating in Tibet to enable all people to access, easily understand, and practice the path to enlightenment.

Each session is a wonderful opportunity to improve our wisdom and concentration through contemplating, and meditating on a series of meaningful topics. By gaining experience of Lamrim meditations we overcome all our faults, solve our daily problems and draw closer to the lasting happiness we wish for.

Each session consists of short preparatory prayers and an unguided meditation, which can be found in The New Meditation Handbook. This retreat will help you to establish and deepen your own meditation practice. Everyone is welcome regardless of their background or experience.

There will be four unguided sessions a day, see below for the timetable. Please note that session three on Sunday 25 January will be Offering to the Spiritual Guide prayers with tsog offering.

There will be periods of silence observed at the Centre—from early morning till noon and after 9pm.

Please note this is an in-depth retreat: If you haven’t attended this retreat before please email education@meditateinwellington.org to let us know you are coming, and try to arrive 15-30 minutes before the session begins so we can give you some essential instructions.
