Foundation Study Program • Free Introduction
The purpose of the Foundation Program
The Foundation Program (FP) provides an ideal opportunity to engage in systematic study and meditation on the essential subjects of Kadampa Buddhism based on six books by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. The emphasis in the classes, which consist of teachings, meditation, and discussion, is on gaining practical experience of Buddha’s teachings that you can apply to your daily life.
What are the six books studied on FP?
~ The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, based on the commentary Joyful Path of Good Fortune
~Training the Mind, based on the commentaries Universal Compassion and The New Eight Steps to Happiness
~ The Heart Sutra, based on the commentary The New Heart of Wisdom
~ Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, based on the commentary Meaningful to Behold
~ Types of Mind, based on the commentary How to Understand the Mind
New Section Starting 11th May
Starting in May we begin the section “The Great Scope” from Joyful Path of Good Fortune. Through studying this section we receive an unsurpassed explanation of the gradual, step-by-step development of minds such as love, great compassion, and the wisdom realizing emptiness. We will also learn how to train in concentration and engage in the sublime selfless practices of the six perfections.
Free Introduction ~ 11th May ~ Book Below
Come along and get a taste of what it’s like to be part of the Foundation Program (FP). In this free introductory session, resident teacher Gen Kelsang Lachpa will explain the benefits of studying on the program and share helpful advice on how to get the most from your study.
The session will also include guided meditation, a short reading from the book with commentary, and time for discussion.
