With the pace and stress of modern life our body and mind can easily become out of balance. In such a state we cannot be of much benefit to either ourselves or to others. Through training in meditation and spiritual paths we can learn how to develop a more healthy and happy mind, and by doing so enjoy our life and bring joy and benefit to others.

Join us at any of our weekly drop-in classes held at Island Bay and around the Wellington area. Everyone is also welcome to join us for any group chanted prayer sessions.


Having learned some methods for improving our mind, we can then continue to train in these meditations and practices on our own in between classes. If we put these methods into practice we will experience our mind gradually becoming more peaceful, our problems diminishing, and our relationships improving.

Although the General Programme (drop-in) classes are taught as a series, each class is self-contained, so feel free to attend any one. There are also regular introductory courses and events for beginners.  As all General Programme classes are based on Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s books, teachers will often reference a particular section of these books. This gives us the opportunity to deepen our familiarity with the topic by engaging in follow-up study.


Do I have to be a Buddhist to benefit from meditation? No. Anyone can learn basic meditation and experience the benefits that come from having a peaceful mind. Buddhists respect all people and are happy to help anyone regardless of whether they subscribe to another faith, or to none.

Do I need to have experience in meditation or Buddhism to attend the classes?
No. All you need is the wish to improve yourself and the quality of your life.

What do I need to bring to class?
Nothing in particular, however if you wish to take notes bring a pen and notepad.

How should I dress for class?
No particular clothing is required. We sit in chairs.
