The Stillness Within
A Special Guided Retreat on Improving Concentration
2 – 5 November, 2018

with Buddhist Monk and NZ National Spiritual Director Gen Kelsang Rabten
Riverslea Retreat Centre • Otaki Gorge • Kapiti Coast

With concentration our mind becomes bright and clear like a cloudless sky, and we naturally experience deep inner strength and mental stability. Through it, the pain and turbulence of unhappy thoughts and craving naturally subsides and it is easy to remain peaceful. It is said that pure concentration gives us the freedom to accomplish the self-transformation we wish for, whereas without it we are a slave to our negative minds and limiting self-conceptions.

On this special retreat Gen Rabten will teach and guide simple yet profound meditations that improve concentration and mindfulness, and empower us to maintain a peaceful and happy mind in daily life. Dive into the silence and clarity of your own mind and experience the tranquility and transformative quality of the mind’s pure nature, allowing you to progress towards the person you want to be. This retreat is suitable to those new to meditation as well as experienced practitioners. Everyone is welcome.

The course begins with supper at 6.30pm on the Friday night and finishes with lunch on Monday. There are plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind in the beautiful gardens and various nature walks in the forest. This retreat is catered with delicious vegetarian food, and there is a range of accommodation options. All you need to do is to relax and enjoy yourself.

Each session contains short preparatory prayers, a teaching and guided meditation. During this retreat there will be a period of silence from Saturday evening through to Monday morning.

Booking is essential – please book early to ensure a place.

Gen Kelsang Rabten is the National Spiritual Director for Kadampa Buddhism in New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia, and has taught meditation for over twenty years. His deep faith in Buddha’s teachings and the sincerity of his practice inspire many people to embark on a meaningful and rich spiritual life.
