Stress and worry are parts of the mind, unpleasant feelings that arise in response to challenging situations. Meditation can help us to develop a more productive set of responses so that we free ourselves of these unhelpful mental habits.
This course will help us train in practical methods for overcoming stress – how to maintain a peaceful and positive mind at work and at home, improving all our relationships.
Buddhism & The Meaning of Life: October 17, 24, 31; November 7
We are all searching for meaning and happiness. Some of us look for it in careers, some in relationships, and others in possessions and experiences. But for most people, a truly meaningful life eludes them because they are looking in the wrong places.
Buddha revealed how we can live a more satisfying way of life – by improving our ability to make ourselves happy from within. By developing our wisdom in this way, we begin to travel the path to solving all our problems and accomplishing the true meaning of our human life.
In this course we will explore some of the key teachings of Buddha, such as the four noble truths, the nature of our mind, universal compassion, and impermanence. But applying this timeless wisdom in our lives we can align our thoughts and actions with our most heartfelt wish: to be happy all the time.
Self Confidence: November 14, 21, 28; December 5, 12
Self-confidence is not a quality that we either have or we don’t have. In fact, it is a state of mind
that can be cultivated. By applying Buddha’s teachings on the mind we come to discover that our
insecurities are based on mistaken apprehensions of ourselves. As a result, we end up identifying
with our limitations.
In this series, through inspiring talks and powerful guided meditations, we will learn how to
experience the pure and limitless nature of our mind. Through this joyful experience we naturally
let go of our inhibiting insecurities and instead identify with our potential. This authentic
self-confidence naturally empowers us in all our activities. We will explore how to integrate
this self-confidence into our life and in particular how to use it to bring about the deeper
changes that we long for. In this way we begin to be the confident, joyful, loving person we
truly wish to be.
