Gen Kelsang Shechog is a Buddhist nun and the Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Centre Wellington. Gen Shechog has been practising and teaching Kadampa Buddhism for over 16 years. Her teachings are exceptionally clear and she presents profound ideas in a way that is easily accessible and applicable to modern life. Gen Shechog is much loved for her gentle manner, kind heart and for showing an inspiring example for everyone on the spiritual path.

About the Retreat
If we wish to lead the happy life we long for, we need to learn how to transform our mind. In this retreat, be guided through the essential meditations of Buddhism that will give rise to a complete transformation of your mind, freeing you from negative emotions and making joy and happiness your everyday reality.
The retreat begins with a light evening meal at 6.30pm on the Friday night and finishes with lunch on Monday. This retreat is catered with delicious vegetarian and vegan food, and there is a range of accommodation options.
Cost
All booking options include retreat sessions as well as lunch and dinner. Breakfast is also included when booking accommodation. For those staying off-site, breakfast is not included but can be booked if required.
All bookings must be accompanied by at least a 25% deposit. Full payment due by January 6th.
Book before December 23 to receive a 10% early bird discount for camping, dorm and shared room options.
Centre Members receive a 10% discount on all options, and an additional 5% early-bird discount for camping, dorm and shared room.

Covid Information
Travelling to the Venue
Waihoanga Retreat Centre is in the Otaki River Gorge, with the Tararua Ranges to the east and the Kapiti Coast to the west. The facility is situated just 10km south of Otaki.
Address: 32 Waihoanga Rd, Otaki. Just 80km from Wellington city and from Palmerston North.
Driving to Waihoanga from Wellington
From Wellington, 1 hour’s drive, north of the capital on State Highway 1 (Transmission Gully Motorway). Drive out of Wellington and head north towards Otaki on SH1. Just before the Otaki bridge, on your right, you will see a sign for Otaki Gorge Road. At this sign, turn right onto Otaki Gorge Road.
Waihoanga is 7km along Otaki Gorge Rd; just look out for their sign on the left. Drive over the bridge and Waihoanga road is first on your right. Follow this road and you will see a sign saying lodge/retreat. Follow this and park under the trees. The retreat centre is just at the end of this drive.
Driving to Waihoanga from the north
Follow SH1 through Otaki, over the bridge, turn left onto Otaki Gorge Road (this should be the first road on your left after crossing the bridge). Then follow the instructions as above.
Taking the train to Otaki from Wellington
The train leaves Wellington Station 5:15pm and arrives in Otaki Station 6:20pm. See the Capital Connection website.
Cost: $19.50
Please note that this train will not run on Monday morning (Wellington Anniversary Day); however we will be able to give you a lift back into Wellington, dropping off at the train station.
